Established in 1838 by Oliver Loveland as a supplier to the building industry, we’ve weathered many storms—economic panics, the Civil War, two World Wars, and four significant depressions. By the time we celebrated our 110th anniversary, we had not only survived these challenges but had also adapted to face new conflicts and economic ups and downs.

Initially focused on the building trade, we later became a major supplier to the soap industry. Our name changed to Welch, Holme & Clark in 1870, and we officially incorporated in 1892.
