Welch, Holme & Clark is one of the oldest supply firms in the United States, founded during a tough economic period. Established in 1838 by Oliver Loveland as a supplier to the building industry, we’ve weathered many storms—economic panics, the Civil War, two World Wars, and four significant depressions. By the time we celebrated our 110th anniversary, we had not only survived these challenges but had also adapted to face new conflicts and economic ups and downs.

Initially focused on the building trade, we later became a major supplier to the soap industry. Our name changed to Welch, Holme & Clark in 1870, and we officially incorporated in 1892. By the early 1900s, we were already supplying various industries with a wide range of products, which you can find detailed in the following pages.

To maintain our high standards, we operate a full-time in-house quality control laboratory. Here, we test and analyze all incoming and outgoing products using methods set by U.S.P., F.C.C., A.O.C.S., A.S.T.M., and advanced gas chromatography.
